When I fell asleep last night, I was on top of the world. Despite my better judgment, I hooked up with a client, and I thought things were going well. I believed we could actually get something going. Of course, I wasn’t thinking about the logistics of him being about to sign a recording contract or that he lives in a different state.

Those were just details.

Today, the details slap me in the face and remind me why I’m not an optimist. Shit is never as easy as it seems. That attitude serves me well in my line of work. I need to always be thinking about the worst-case scenario and how things can go wrong.

And the call I wake up to is my worst-case scenario.

“Dude, what happened? Did he ditch you?” Erin is basically screaming in my ear. “The client is freaking out.”

“What?” I jump out of bed and start stepping into clothes. “What happened? Is Pitch okay?” It’s only seven in the morning and I dropped him off at two. How much trouble could he have gotten into in five hours?

“You obviously haven’t seen the pictures I sent. Check your phone and call me back. We need a story for the client. They’re threatening to sue us for breach of contract.”

What the fuck? I disconnect the call and open the texts.

There is a stream of photos of Pitch surrounded by women. In one, he’s shirtless and kissing a woman while another is on her knees. You can’t see his dick out or anything, but it’s definitely suggested.

And he isn’t wearing his arm brace. Motherfucker! I knew he was using his fingers more than he should if he were really injured. What the hell is going on?

I finish getting dressed and call Erin back as I head toward the bus. “When were these pictures taken?”

She sighs. “They were posted a few hours ago but supposedly from last night. Where is he now?”

“Excellent question. He was in his bus by two, and I was with him the entire time after the show until then. He must have taken off after that.” Which makes no sense at all. He was exhausted and tucked right in for the night. Why would he leave after that? Unless the band came back and rounded him up and he had to play the part? I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but the knot in my gut makes me want to puke. “I’m at his bus now. I’ll figure it out.”

Hanging up, I take a deep breath and hold my fist over the door to knock. And then I decide against it and just barge in, swinging open the door and letting myself in.

Everyone is asleep. The bus is silent, and Pitch is cuddled up exactly as I left him. What the hell is going on?

I consider waking him up but then remember my place. I’m not his boyfriend. He never made any promises to me. If he went out and got some pussy last night, that’s his business.
